The SIMATIC s7-1200 system has five different modules: CPU 1211C, CPU 1212C, CPU 1214C, CPU1215C and CPU1217C. Each of these modules can be extended to fully meet the needs of your system. A signal board can be added in front of any CPU to easily extend digital or analog I/O without affecting the actual size of the controller. The signal module can be connected to the right side of the CPU to further expand the digital or analog I/O capacity. CPU 1212C can connect two signal modules, and CPU 1214C, CPU1215C and CPU1217C can connect eight signal modules. Finally, the left side of all the SIMATIC s7-1200 CPU controllers can be connected to up to three communication modules for end-to-end serial communication.
